Give Treasure

Why Should I Give?

Giving says “thank you” to God

When we give, we recognize that everything we have is a gift from God and return a part back to Him of what we’ve received. We don’t just give to pay bills—we give because it’s part of living our faith and being a disciple of Jesus.

Giving lets us mirror God’s character

He has given us everything — not even withholding his own Son. God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son. Giving helps us to better reflect the character of God.

Giving expresses love for people

Our giving makes it possible for people to hear the Good News of God’s love for them. It also helps us provide, through our Ministry partners, critical care to the poor and those in need. As a disciple, we all share in the Church’s mission.

How much should I give?

Think about all the ways God has blessed you. Every gift we have—our families, our talents, our time, and even our money—comes from Him.

When we give back, we show our love and thankfulness.

The Old Testament talks about giving a “tithe,” or ten percent. For some people, this is possible, but for others it may be harder.

What matters most is that we offer our “first fruits”—our best gifts to God—not just what is left over.

When we give, it should come from the heart.

Our offering should be prayerful, generous, and a true sign of our gratitude to God, who blesses us more than we can imagine.

“According to the teaching of the Gospel, we are not owners but rather administrators of the goods we possess: these, then, are not to be considered as our exclusive possession, but means through which the Lord calls each one of us to act as a steward of His providence for our neighbor. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us, material goods bear a social value, according to the principle of their universal destination (cf. n. 2404)”

-Pope Benedict XVI
