Plenary Indulgence for the Holy Souls

November 1 to 8

A plenary indulgence, applicable only to the souls in purgatory, is granted to the faithful who devoutly visit a cemetery and pray, even if only mentally, for the departed, on any day from November 1 to 8. On other days of the year, the indulgence is partial.

The usual conditions also apply:

  • Sacramental confession

  • Holy Communion

  • Prayer for the intention of the Holy Father (one Our Father and one Hail Mary is enough)

  • Freedom from all attachment to sin, even venial sin

One confession is enough for several plenary indulgences, but Communion and prayer for the Holy Father are needed for each one.
