From the Ballpark to the Heart: Sharing Christ in Houston

On Saturday 5/10 we had 6 evangelists with a group of three hitting the streets (including Fr. JP Orasco). We set up right after the wedding and had many attendees visit the table. My wife, Sally, and I prayed with a man who just had brain/ear (cancer) surgery. He and his lovely wife were very grateful and joyful after the encounter and said they felt peaceful about the future. Over the two hour period we had an unusual number of faithful Catholics visit the table and many gladly received rosaries, crucifixes and other sacramentals. It was an honor to encourage them in their faith journey.

Fr JP's group encountered many people on the street including a very depressed man who left the ballgame early. The man's mother was recently deported and he just had a very good friend pass away. He went to the game to "get away" but found no consolation there. The three evangelists spoke uplifting, appropriate words to him, leading him to an encounter with Jesus. He accepted an invitation to the Center's young (Spanish speaking) adult group and showed up last Tuesday night. Yay!

On Saturday 5/31 Houston/Galveston SPSE team leader Janet Estepp and I will offer free basic street evangelism training at the CCC, after the 8:30a mass until about 12p. For those willing, after a free lunch, we'll be carpooling to the ballpark/Church of the Annunciation for a 1:15p-3:15p practicum of what was taught. The "newbees" will be encouraged to observe, pray for and encounter alongside (if willing) with experienced evangelists. I know this is last minute but any faithful Catholic is welcome to attend.

Blessings,
Dn Alex & Sally Bogdanoff
