Penance and Reconciliation
Penance and Reconciliation is a great gift from God
God forgives every action and sin of ours when we go to Confession and ask for His mercy and forgiveness.
Going to confession gives us tremendous peace and increases our strength to be good Christians, good sons and daughters of God.
-
Penance is the sacrament by which sins committed after Baptism are forgiven through the absolution of the priest.
It is also known as the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of Confession.
-
The effects of the sacrament of Penance, worthily received, are:
the restoration or increase of sanctifying grace;
the forgiveness of sins;
the remission of the eternal punishment, if necessary, and also of part, at least, of the temporal punishment, due to our sins;
the help to avoid sin in future;
the restoration of the merits of our good works if they have been lost by mortal sin.
-
Anyone above the 7 years and older.
-
Confession Times are 15 minutes before each Mass starts.
First Penance for 2nd-12th Grade usually happens in November.
For those 18 years old or older, the First Penance varies depending on the person receiving the sacrament.
