Fr. John Ugobueze

Fr. John Ugobueze is a Catholic priest serving as Chaplain at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Houston Health Care System, where he provides pastoral care and spiritual support to veterans, families, and staff of all faiths. He is also President of the Catholic League for the Poor of Nigeria, Inc., a nonprofit with a mission to give access to good quality healthcare to all poor and needy Nigerian families without having to travel abroad.

A native of Nigeria, Fr. Ugobueze studied philosophy and theology at Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu, and later earned a Doctorate in Health Care Ethics from Duquesne University. He has extensive experience in hospital ministry, having served as Vice President of Mission and Religious Integration at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Illinois before joining the U.S. Federal Chaplaincy.

At the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Fr. Ugobueze offers Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, pastoral counseling, and TeleChaplaincy services, helping veterans find hope and healing through faith and compassionate care.

He is a priest in residence at the Annunciation rectory. He helps us out by celebrating our weekend Masses and Project Mercy.
