Roof Repair Completed: Caring for Our Beautiful & Historic Church

Finished roof repair

We are pleased to share that the recent copper roof repair on our historic church has been successfully completed. After receiving approval from the Archdiocesan Legal and Risk Management Offices and securing the necessary City of Houston permits, work began on February 12 and concluded on February 20, 2026. The project was completed efficiently and professionally, with careful attention given to preserving the integrity and beauty of our 150+ year-old church.

This repair addressed two major valley sections of the copper roof that had been compromised by age and weathering. Specialists determined that without intervention, water intrusion could have caused significant long-term damage to the structure, interior plaster, electrical systems, and historic architectural features. The work included removing and salvaging existing copper panels, stabilizing the underlying decking, installing new high-temperature underlayment, fabricating and installing new copper valley panels, resecuring materials with proper fasteners, adding protective sealants and flashing, and cleaning the roof and gutter system.

Most importantly, this project was made possible through the generosity of our parishioners and benefactors. Your faithful support allowed us to respond promptly to an urgent need and to protect this sacred space entrusted to our care. Because of you, our church remains safe, beautiful, and structurally sound—a place where the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered daily and where generations gather to worship, pray, and receive the sacraments.

As stewards of Houston’s Mother Church, we recognize that caring for a historic building requires ongoing attention and investment. While this critical repair has been completed, continued maintenance and future preservation efforts will be necessary to safeguard our church for generations to come. Your generosity not only addressed an immediate need but also strengthens our ability to respond faithfully to future projects as they arise.

Thank you for helping us preserve this cornerstone of Catholic life in downtown Houston. Your commitment protects our heritage and secures our future.
